Phi is Phine

Short essay on the Golden Ratio of Phi.

A must use for anybody who wants to frame properly in photography, videography and the visual arts. This concept has been used since 300 BCE by the Greeks and almost all artists, builders, architects are engaged to this rule.

Enjoy the show (and perhaps try to use it)

Autumn and creativity block

my brain

As we enter Autumn here in the Northern hemisphere a new waft is in the  air. The nights are cooler, the mornings crisp and foggy, and the days are refreshing. Yet, my creativity and imagination is on hold. I had started a video project dealing with robots, automation, no people involved and it’s stuck at 75%.

Since I like what I do with imagery and music and try to do some each day I decided after a few days of mental blockage to start a new project dealing with kids, child labor, child exploitation and poverty in the 1920’s. After gathering images, research, reading and cranking out a general layout — POOF! mental paralysis.

So I started a third one (Don’t give up, never!) And this one was more cheerful, full of energy and creative juices – – – about tap dancing and some great tappers. As I began making progress on this one, I took some time off, to smell the roses I saw from my window (just blooming and coming out in our garden) So I  began filming and photographing them (Is this a fourth project?)

Please, help! No more false starts… Just allow me to begin, toil and finish at least one of them, PLEASE!! As you can tell, a force greater than myself  has taken over pumping and filling me with new ideas, but not allowing me to proceed to completion. “Got another for you, check this, this and that! What you think? Cool? Isn’t it? And so on…

A break is needed. And so I’ll relax today and try to cook some Thai food (look up some spicy recipes, veggies and seafood!) That’s the ticket!

Bye for now…

Styrofoam Anagrams

Just learning new graphics and techniques to display powerful messages. Always wanted to do more in this area, but fell short. Once I invested the time and begun seeing the interactions, colors and messaging, it made some sense. Tried a variety of looks and graphics to see how they display and what impact they may convey. The subjects covered are real. The thoughts, opinions and selected anagrams are my responsibility [and I stand by them 🙂 ]
Hope you enjoy the experiment,

Leo

An·a·gram = An anagram is a type of word play, the result of rearranging the letters of a word or phrase to produce a new word or phrase, using all the original letters exactly once.
Current events and newsworthy personalities are involved in this mish-mash.

Pizzaiolo Pazzo – Mad Pizza Maker

Tempted for many years to create the best pizza Napoli can offer and not succeeding. Unfortunately my baking and dough preparation skills lack severely. So instead of making a pizza, I’ve concentrated in documenting the steps to achieve the perfect “Pizza Napoletana” as officially sanctioned by the Italian Department of Agriculture and the Associazione Vera Pizza Napoletana.

According to the rules proposed by the Associazione Vera Pizza Napoletana, the genuine Neapolitan pizza dough consists of wheat flour (type 0 or 00, or a mixture of both), natural Neapolitan yeast or brewer’s yeast, salt and water. For proper results, strong flour with high protein content (as used for bread-making rather than cakes) must be used. The dough must be kneaded by hand or with a low-speed mixer. After the rising process, the dough must be formed by hand without the help of a rolling pin or other machine, and may be no more than 3 millimetres (0.12 in) thick. The pizza must be baked for 60–90 seconds in a 485 °C (905 °F) stone oven with an oak-wood fire. When cooked, it should be crispy, tender and fragrant. There are three official variants: pizza marinara, which is made with tomato, garlic, oregano and extra virgin olive oil, pizza Margherita, made with tomato, sliced mozzarella, basil and extra-virgin olive oil, and pizza Margherita extra made with tomato, mozzarella from Campania in fillets, basil and extra virgin olive oil. The pizza napoletana is a Traditional Speciality Guaranteed (Specialità Tradizionale Garantita, STG) product in Europe.

The video was sped up by 30% to create a more dynamic feel. The selected music is a live performance of Funiculì, Funiculà by the famous three tenors José Carreras, Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti, directed by Zubin Mehta.

In 1889, during a visit to Naples, Queen Margherita of Italy was served a pizza resembling the colors of the Italian flag, red (tomato), white (mozzarella) and green (basil). This kind of pizza has been named after the Queen as Pizza Margherita, as shown in this video.

Lyrics for Funiculì, Funiculà:

Yesterday evening, O Nannina [short for Carolina], I climbed up,
Do you know where?
To where an ungrateful heart can no longer vex me!
Where a fire is burning, but if you flee
It lets you be.
It doesn’t chase you, doesn’t melt you, with just one glance!
Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go to the top,
Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go to the top,
Funiculì, funiculà, funiculì, funiculà!
Let’s go to the top, Funiculì, funiculà!

Let’s go from here below up to the mountain, O Nannina, a step away!
You can see France, Procida, and Spain,
And I see you!
You rise, pulled by a cable, quick as a wink
into the sky.
We’ll rise up like a whirlwind all of a sudden knows how to do!
Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go to the top,
Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go to the top,
Funiculì, funiculà, funiculì, funiculà!
Let’s go to the top, Funiculì, funiculà!

My head is spinning, O Nannina, It’s gone up there already!
It went there, spun ’round, and then returned:
It’s always here!
My head is spinning, spinning,
Encircling you!
This heart of mine is always singing
the same refrain:
“Marry me, O Nannina”!
Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go to the top,
Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go to the top,
Funiculì, funiculà, funiculì, funiculà!
Let’s go to the top, Funiculì, funiculà!

Enjoy the the show and Buon Appetito!

Hunger nightmares

This topic was on my agenda for more than a year. I wanted to communicate the gravity of why so many people go hungry or undernourished everyday. Lack of food is mostly due to man-made causes that can be addressed and corrected.
In this production I try to clarify the causes only. There are more intelligent and capable sources to correct the problem, so I didn’t cover the solution phase, nor do I feel capable of doing it.
The purpose of this video is to call attention and raise awareness to some of the foolish things we are doing as nations that create hunger for a lot of a our fellow humans.

I hope you support this message by redistributing it and posting it wherever it will be seen.
Thank you for watching,
Leo

New year, new projects

Hi everybody,

The new year begun and I have piled a bunch of new projects. At this point they are just ideas to be developed and fleshed out. Typically they require research, sourcing of material, music, art, paintings, history and photographs.

I always endeavor to have my own material on each project. Sometimes I have to go and shoot pictures that will complement the story, other times the images may be more abstract in nature.

These are the concepts I will be working in the next weeks/months:

  • NYC Street Art
  • Oil – Boom and bust cycles
  • A new tango (milonga)
  • Tierra del Fuego, the most southern part of South America
  • The Danube River in Romania
  • A video about the moon, moonshine etc…
  • A follow-up on the  Money Puzzle, perhaps a compilation of one of the characters accomplishments

In the meantime, enjoy the winter ♥ and have a wonderful day!
